SAU On The Lawn Spotlight: Broken Records...
Broken Records formed in 2007 in Edinburgh, Scotland. The seven members use their different musical backgrounds and a wide variety of instrumentation to compliment the eclectic sound they create.
Their 2007 self released debut EP which was sold at shows created a wider interest in the band. Drowned in Sound said of the release, “This is magical, engrossing and wholly enveloping, genuinely and excitingly bursting with commercial potential.” They refined their sound throughout 2007 and 2008 with numerous gigs throughout Scotland, including support slots with Idlewild, Sons & Daughters and Editors.
Broken Records released their highly acclaimed debut 7" single, If the News Makes You Sad Don't Watch It, on London based indie label Young Turks in April 2008. This received plaudits from such varied publications as NME, The Guardian, Drowned in Sound, The Sun and The Times. Radio 1’s Steve Lamacq made it his single of the week and Huw Stephens invited them to do a session for Radio 1 at Maida Vale. Limited releases of singles Slow Parade and Lies led to a scramble of album deal offers, with the band excited to sign to the prestigious 4AD label. They rounded off the year by playing at the Edinburgh Hogmanay Street Party and being tipped for 2009 in Q magazine, The Times and News Of The World amongst others.
This on the spotlight band plays the hell out of this song. All the intricate parts of the actual beat (which I can assume are all live instruments) compliment the singer's vocals 100%. Along with the subtle yet hardcore vocals of the lead singer, it makes for a totally awesome soaring song, calm for a minute but in a mere second the band takes it to another level Love it...Check it out folks check it out....

Fergie Is Billboard's Woman Of The Year....
Billboard: Black Eyed Peas vocalist and six-time Grammy-winning artist Fergie will receive the Woman of the Year Award at the 2010 Billboard Women in Music Event on Dec. 2 in New York.
"I am humbled and excited to accept the Billboard Woman of the Year Award," Fergie says. "Being honored by Billboard is a great career achievement."
The Black Eyed Peas own the longest streak of consecutive weeks spent at No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart by any artist in the chart's 52-year history, with 2009 singles "Boom Boom Pow" reigning for 12 weeks and "I Gotta Feeling" for 14. Additionally, "I Gotta Feeling" is the best-selling digital song in Nielsen SoundScan history.
Billboard's annual Women in Music Event celebrates the most powerful and talented women in the music business, coinciding with the publication of Billboard's Women in Music Power Players list.
Congrats to Fergie Ferg..

New Music: Lupe Fiasco "The Show Goes On"
New Music from Lupe Fiasco has hit the scene titled "The Show Goes On". Finally getting the green light for his "Lasers" album which hits stores March 8th, 2011. Rather early to be releasing a single, but hey, at least he has an album release date. "The Show Goes On" is produced by Kane Beatz and samples the indie Rock Band Modest Mouse "Float On" which you can also hear below...
Now although this is a rather so so song from Lupe, it could potentially grow on me. As far as the beat, I like it but this beat which was built around the Modest Mouse sample rings loud during the verses but takes a backseat throughout the hook...Turn that MotherFu**er UP! It's an awesome sample! Check out the original...

New Vid: Nicki Minaj "Right Thru Me"...
In an effort to promote her "Pink Friday Album" which comes out Nov 22nd. Nicki Minaj has released the video to her next single "Right Thru Me" Which you can view Here. In the video Nicki shows off her acting skills at the beginning of the video during an "argument" with the man that can see "Right Thru" her. The video does show a much calmer and softer side of Nicki this time around so SAU whatcha think?
An Album Not To Forget...
So I just decided to post a song from this album because for the last week this artist has been on my mind...Anthony Hamilton came out with his album "Comin From Where I'm from" with the singles "Comin' from where I'm from" and the infamous "Charlene" which topped at number 3 on the R&B charts and #19 on the Hot 100. The album as a whole sold a mere 33,000 copies in its first week but within a year, with hard work and a faithful fan base that began to rise the album sold 1.2 million copies in the United States. I was totally blown away with the sound and quality of his very soulful vocals from number 1-12. The song that totally stuck out from this album other than "I'm a mess" and "Charlene" is "Since I Seen't You" which is about a relationship steaming from the moment someone saw that other person, but backed by the soul that is Anthony Hamilton he almost gives you no choice but to "get it" Check out my song of the moment...
Your conversation/is liberating/when we're relating/it's a vacation/like recreation-Glorious Quote From Anthony Hamilton (Since I seen't you)
New Music: Wale "Make It Rain" (Freestyle)
And why again is Wale so damn underrated? His flow on this beat is crazy along with (What some don't realize makes a good rap artist's sound) his vocal tone. Not anyone can get on a rap track and blow it out the water with 1:50. Wale has been basically screaming to the game "Check me out" Since "Rhyme of The Century" and "Nike Boots". SAU what you guys think about Wale? Give the man some feedback...
Check out "Nike Boots" and "Rhyme of The Century"(Which was Wale's first song on DMV radio)
Justin Timberlake...Performing???? SAY WHAT?
Justin Timberlake rarely shows his face on the stage, that is until this past weekend at his annual charity show Justin Timberlake and Friends in Las Vegas.
Timberlake started his performance off by asking the crowd "You Guys comfortable?" also by telling them that he wants to "Try new things", stating that the day before something hit him and he started "Fucking around with it", going into a very sensual yet vulnerable version of "Cry Me A River" dipping in and out of "Ain't No Sunshine" and Drake's "Over"...One thing we can say about Justin is those vocals are still glossy and his stage presence hasn't left in any capacity, with his ability to express each and every word of "Cry Me A River" ending it with "Don't be pissed off I'm an actor, its not over, and when I come back Imma' come harder" Love it..check it out...

Taylor Swif Shoots For The Stars....
...and it looks like she just might land on the moon...Taylor Swift is on track to have the largest sales weekly of the year, making her mark potentially selling anywhere between 800,000 to 900,000 copies and has a shot at shifting 1 million according to Billboard. Until then the country band Sugarland arrived and parked "The Incredible Machine" at the number 1 spot, selling 203,000 copies last week, according to Nielsen SoundScan, beating out No. 2- Kings of Leon's "Come Around Sundown," which starts with 184,000.
Although Sugarland beat them out for the number one spot Billboard states "Come Around Sundown" immediately earns Kings of Leon both its highest charting album and best sales week. The group's last set, 2008's "Only By the Night," bowed at No. 5 with their best sales week (74,000), but peaked at No. 4 nearly a year later, in September of 2009.
All in All great week for music and even better weeks ahead for the music biz..thanks Taylor. Check out some of her David Letterman interview below...

Michael Buble' Performs On X-Factor...
Can anyone give me one reason not to love this Michael Buble'? His albums sell off the shelves within a blink of an eye, the man sounds amazing live and that voice makes any woman melt. Michael Buble' took to the X-factor stage recently to perform his latest single "Hollywood" from his album "Crazy Love Hollywood Edition"...
If you guys have been under a rock while Buble' has been doing his thing, check out one of my favorite tracks from him titled "Cry me a river" which was originally written for Ella Fitzgerald to sing in the 1920s-set film, Pete Kelly's Blues. Only a huge unique singer can take on a live based track such as this and Buble' hit it out the park...SAU We like Michael Buble'..ALOT!

Can I Get A Sample?....
Sting's "Shape Of My Heart" has to bring emotion to the musical lover's ear. With compelling lyrics that DAMN acoustic guitar that won't leave your soul, Sting struck a nerve with this one on my part. From the "Ten Summoner's Tales" album, which contained two U.S. hits; "If I Ever Lose My Faith in You" reached #17 on the Billboard Hot 100 and "Fields of Gold" reached #23 taking the album to 3x's platinum. Although "Shape Of My Heart" failed to stick on the better side of the charts (Other than #57 on the U.K. Singles charts) that sample was one to remember and we would soon hear it again.
From 93' with Sting to 96'..Nas pressed out the classic album "It Was Written". Following the moderate sales success of his acclaimed debut album, Illmatic (1994), Nas chose to focus his efforts in a more mainstream direction. With that being said, that sample which took to shaping our hearts from the beginning made its way back with "The Message" Hip hop heads and many alike saw #2 as a underrated classic...as do I....
(This sample was also used on Carl Thomas' 2005 title track from his "Emotional" Album")

Throwback Of The Day...Tevin Campbell "Alone With You"...
When you think of "Child Stars/ Artists" you don't actually think they can produce a song that will actually give you feeling (that is if your over 21) But put them with Quincy Jones and it just might happen. I can remember hearing this song not believing this guy was very young. From his debut album "T.E.V.I.N" released November 19, 1991 one of the songs that I cherish is "Alone With You" produced and written by Al.B Sure, and Kyle West. This song takes us back to when R&B meant more to the world, and slower songs were acceptable among singles... T.E.V.I.N. the album went platinum & yielded two #1 R&B hits in "Tell Me What You Want Me to Do", "Alone With You", and had several other hits.
FLIGHT!!
Black Eyed Peas Unveil Single/Album Art For "The Beginning"
B.E.P isn't letting up just yet. Last week they set the net ablaze with their new single "The Time (Dirty Bit), which samples 1987 hit ballad "(I've Had) The Time of My Life," from the film "Dirty Dancing." The track stays with the now "In" Sound of techno that B.E.P's now known for. Now although this was mildly predictable for the Peas, "If it ain't broke don't fix it. My only thing that sticks out like a sore thumb in some aspects of this song are some of the very abrupt transitions. Other than that for me growing up on Chicago's house music I can get with it in some form and you can bet your bottom dollar you'll be hearing this song every time you turn on the radio. SAU whatcha think?

Kings Of Leon Stomps Their Foot On U.K Charts....
It looks like Kings Of Leon are back in a huge way with the release of "Come Around Sundown". According to Billboard, the band sold an astonishing 183,000+ copies of their new one, it recorded the biggest first-week sale of any artist album this year, and the 49,000 of those that were digital represented the biggest first-week digital sales in U.K. chart history.
In other KOL news, while speaking to MTV front man Caleb said that "they never planned for "Radioactive" to be a single".
"I didn't think it would be a single, let alone the first one. I mean, the vocal, I mess up on the first verse, I mess up on the second verse, I mean, my voice is off, so I really didn't think the label would want that as a single, but they wanted it first," he explained.
"I don't know, I think at this point, we could do something with me tapping my foot and singing into a can and [critics] would be like, 'Oh, it's so anthemic', or, 'Oh, it's so stadium-friendly'."

SAU On The Lawn Spotlight....Liam Singer
Born and raised in Portland, Oregon, Liam Singer studied piano as a child, and at 14 began recording songs on the accordion, synthesizer and theremin. In the early 2000s, Singer studied music composition at Kenyon College in Ohio, with harpsichord as his primary instrument. During his time at Kenyon he played in several bands and co-founded a 20-piece kazoo orchestra. Returning to Portland after college, Singer recorded his first album, The Empty Heart of the Chameleon, and played keyboards for The Scientifics (now Eliot Rose) and Nate Ashley. After touring with The Scientifics he settled in San Francisco. Scott Solter recorded Singer’s second album, Our Secret Lies Beneath The Creek (Tell-All).
Singer is currently playing keyboards for a band called Devil Be Gone.
Now I know this song may throw the unfamiliar musical ear a loop but in this song there are two consecutive singins parts going at the same which is called a "Round" (correct me if I'm wrong) Rounds and partner songs are based on the harmonies and joys of counterpoint or polyphony: that is, music made up of independent lines flowing alongside each other and continually merging in different ways — creating ever new turns, interesting perspectives and beautiful joinings.
This song "Winter Weeds" I've been listening to for about a week now loving all the beautiful turns this song gives you and debating on weather or not to post it. This school is about learning right? Being that I use to play the violin I have a love for classical compositions and songs that are very vunerable....
Throwback Of The Day...Natalie Imbruglia "Smoke"
"Smoke" is a song by Natalie Imbruglia, released as the fourth and final single from her debut album Left of the Middle. It was released on 11 October 1998, reaching #5 on the UK Singles Chart. However, the song failed to enter the top 40 in Imbruglia's home nation of Australia, peaking at 42. The video for "Smoke" was directed by Matthew Rolston.
With a violin break that soothes your soul, A small glimpse of a drum pattern below a blazing piano and roaring guitar that captures your ear like a baby hearing its first "hello". This song being released 98' had to be significant to the alternative world of music at that point(At least to me). This composition is absolutely amazing in every way from the vocal production which Natalie takes on this MONSTROUS composition with her "baby like" vocals which sets up of the entire song..I love it

WWE Recap By Ryan...
This weeks Raw started off with Cena saying that he wants to set the record straight. He said he took a risk by going against Nexus with the chance to eliminate them completely. Cena said he could argue all day about how he lost, but the fact is he lost. They zoomed in on the Nexus armband on his arm. He said he has to take orders from Wade Barrett, which means he's gone gone, not "with the option to head to Smackdown." Cena said he's been through it all and back again on Raw and the fans have stuck by. He said this isn't about titles or money, but about what he loves. Cena said if he didn't have this (WWE), he doesn't know what he would be doing.
Cena said he has to do some things he doesn't really want to do because he knows what type of guy Wade Barrett is. Suddenly, The Miz's music interrupted. Out came Miz, with MITB briefcase in hand, flanked by Alex Riley. Miz mocked Cena baby not wanting to lose the support of the WWE fans. He said he's taken it upon himself to captain Team Raw vs. Big Show's Team Smackdown at Bragging Rights. Miz said he's a better captain than Cena by evaluating what people can actually bring to the team, not based on personal preference. Therefore, he requested Cena join his team. Cena sarcastically said he really, really thinks this is a good idea. He said his problem is Miz as the captain. Cena said maybe he should captain Team Raw. Miz: "No, no, no, no, no, I'm captain."
On cue, Nexus's music hit to interrupt and out came Wade Barrett, alone, marching down the ring entrance ramp. Barrett said he doesn't care about Raw and he certainly doesn't care about Smackdown. He just cares about the WWE Title. Ah, refreshing. Barrett told Cena his orders are to be in his corner when he faces Randy Orton for the title. He told Cena he doesn't want anything else distracting him. Cena tried to explain he can do both, but Barrett cut him off and asked if he's going to disobey his orders.
Alex Riley stepped to Cena and told him he better listen to Barrett. Riley said Miz could decide to cash in his MITB briefcase and become champion. Miz, frustrated, thanked Riley for ruining the element of surprise. He said Riley could be right, though, and lead Raw to victory before becoming WWE champion.
And the GM buzzed, the lights flickered, and Michael Cole began talking. Cole read an email that Cena might have to obey Barrett, but everyone obeys the GM. The GM has booked a series of matches to determine who joins Team Raw. The person doesn't want jealously or betrayal to sneak in like last year. There will be a match tonight to determine the captain of Team Raw: The Miz vs. John Cena.
Back to Miz, who said he'll beat Cena tonight, then perhaps cash in his MITB briefcase at Bragging Rights to become champion. He told Barrett there's nothing he can do about it. Barrett then shoved down Miz until Miz and Riley double-teamed him. Cena stood in the background watching, then Barrett signaled for Cena's help. Cena pounded on Miz, then dropped Riley with an Attitude Adjustment center ring. Riley rolled away, Miz bailed, and Cena posed in the ring getting his babyface shine. Barrett then got right in Cena's face and screamed at him for not helping him during the two-on-one beating.
TED DIBIASE vs. R-TRUTH -- Team Raw qualifying match
DiBiase landed an early knock-down clothesline before Truth caught him with a boot in the corner. Truth then landed a dropkick and a powerslam for a two count. Cole talked up an artificial rivalry vs. Smackdown, referencing for the first time in about 50 weeks Smackdown defeating Raw at last year's PPV. Suddenly, Goldust's music hit as DiBiase was looking for Dream Street. On stage were Goldust and Aksana. Goldust stroked the title belt, distracting DiBiase, then Truth scored a close nearfall followed by the Lie Detector for the pin and the win.
JOHN MORRISON vs. TYSON KIDD -- Team Raw qualifying match
Here's an opportunity for a dose of athleticism on Raw. Kidd blocked an early high-flying attempt by Morrison before settling into a reverse chinlock center ring. Morrison flipped out of the hold before dropping Kidd with a dropkick. Morrison then landed a series of clubbing right hands in the corner. Morrison followed with a leaping leg lariat for a two count. He tried to follow up with a springboard move, but Kidd blocked with a Russian Legsweep off the second rope for a two count. Kidd then teased the Sharpshooter, but Morrison flung him away to the outside. Back in the ring, Kidd and Morrison exchanged great nearfalls in succession before Morrison busted out a sweet-looking back flip-over neckbreaker of sorts. Morrison with the cover for the win. They replayed the finisher a few times to get over the move.
-- U.S. champion DANIEL BRYAN vs. SHEAMUS -- non-title match -- Team Raw qualifying match
Just as the bell sounded, Bryan came flying at Sheamus with a knee strike to the face. The ref had to break it up, then Bryan knocked Sheamus to the outside. The crowd was loud with a "Daniel Bryan" chant as the action moved to the floor. Bryan sent Sheamus into the ringpost with a dropkick before rolling him back into the ring.
Sheamus cut off Bryan's offense back in the ring as Cole reminded viewers Sheamus took out Triple H months ago. Bryan landed multiple kick strikes to the chest, then fired off a final kick strike to the head. Bryan with a cover, but Sheamus kicked out. The crowd chanted Bryan's name again as Bryan went up top and landed a double-foot missile dropkick for a close two count. Sheamus then suddenly came back with the Irish Hammer to the face that floored Bryan. Sheamus proceeded to drop multiple knee strikes to the head as the ref reprimanded him. Sheamus backed away, then stalked Bryan, who sold that he was KO'ed. Sheamus smiled, then approached Bryan to pick him up. Sheamus got a little cocky, though, and Bryan nearly scored a pin with a sunset flip. Sheamus, upset, came back with the Brogue Kick to the face for the pin and the win. Sheamus got up selling that he couldn't believe Bryan's resiliency.
JOHN CENA vs. THE MIZ -- Winner is Team Raw captain -- No DQ match
Cena gained the early advantage and Miz scrambled to the outside. Cena followed him on the outside, but Riley grabbed his feet and dropped him with a clothesline to take advantage of the No DQ rule. They cut to break with Cena selling on the outside and Miz acting cocky in the ring.
Back from break, Cena made a comeback with a flying bulldog and scored a two count. As Cena scored the nearfall, Riley sold like there were alligators surrounding the ring disallowing him from entering the ring to help Miz despite the early use of the No DQ help. Miz then chucked Cena to the floor and Riley landed some shots. Miz took Cena to the Raw announce table and teased the Skullcrushing Finale into the table, but Cena did a "feat of strength" to escape. Miz then cut off Cena's comeback and shoved him off the table into the guardrail.
They reached the top of the hour as Miz continued to stand on the table while Cena sold on the floor. Miz tried to follow up, but Cena flung him away. Riley tried to get involved again, but Cena decked him. Cena then tried to charge into Miz ringside, but Miz moved a piece of the guardrail cover, causing Cena to run into the exposed rail.
Back in the ring, Miz measured Cena for a charging corner attack, but Cena moved. Cena then started his full comeback and hit a sit-out slam setting up the Five Knuckle Shuffle while gasping for air. After dropping the Shuffle, Cena went for the Attitude Adjustment, but Miz slipped out. Miz then nailed a boot to the head and scored a nearfall. Miz followed with the Reality Check, but Cena kicked out. They cut to a shot of Riley holding Miz's MITB briefcase ringside, then Riley handed him the case. Miz measured Cena, but Cena ducked a case shot. Cena then slapped on the STF center ring. The crowd was hot as Miz crawled across the ring looking for a break. Riley entered the ring, but Cena took him out with a football tackle before slapping on the STF. Riley fought the hold wildly before Cena dropped the hold. Cena then focused on Miz and wanted the AA, but Miz slipped out. Husky and Hennig suddenly hit the ring. Cena ate a swinging neckbreaker, then Harris landed a flying sentaun. Miz capitalized by rolling over Cena and making the cover for the win to become captain of Raw.
So, it's Miz, Punk, Morrison, Sheamus, Santino, Truth, and a silhouetted seventh member.
Beyonce To Headline Glastonbury 2011?
According to online reports Beyonce is in talks to headline Glastonbury 2011.
The singer is said to be negotiating with the festival's organiser Michael Eavis for the coveted headline slot, the Daily Star reports.
The performance would follow in the footsteps of her husband Jay-Z, who controversially headlined the British music festival in 2008.
A source said: "After all the furore over Jay-Z playing Glasto, it went off brilliantly and he had a wonderful time.
"Beyoncé was, of course, in the wings soaking up the atmosphere and told everyone how happy she was at Worthy Farm.
"Getting her to perform in her own right seems the ideal next step."
It was recently reported that U2 had dropped numerous hints that they were to headline next year's event after they were forced to pull out last year following Bono's back surgery
Glastonbury or Glasto, is the largest green field open-air music and performing arts festival in the world. Tony! Toni! Tone! Makes "It Feel Good"...
When you think of Oakland California you think of many artists, including Billy Joe Armstrong (Greenday), Digital Underground, Keyshia Cole, and many more, But a time in the late 80's where the hip hops of a house party rang sounds of much "Gangsta Rap", A R&B male group from Oakland California took the separate route from the normal sounds the west coast had to offer then, and smooth sailed into our parents hearts with their "New Jack Swing". Tony Toni Tone broke ground in 1988 with their Gold album "Who?" the singles "Born Not To Know", "For The Love Of You" and "Baby Doll" were all Top 10 R&B singles on Billboard, but still these men D'wayne Wiggins on lead vocals and guitar, his brother Raphael Saadiq (born Charles Ray Wiggins) on lead vocals and bass, and their cousin Timothy Christian Riley on drums still had something to prove....Natural talent and a damn good ear out weighs the popular....
("Feels Good")
("It Never Rains In Southern California")
Their second album and most favored "The Revival" in 1990 took the R&B charts and spectators by storm with their hits "It Never Rains In Southern California", "Feels Good", "The Blues", and "Whatever You Want"(Later sampled by Ludacris) all topping the R&B charts. "Feels Good" was the group's first single to breach the Top 10 of the Hot 100and managed to go gold. But was just platinum enough to hang your hat on? Flash forward to current charts 100,000 albums sold is now considered "platinum status" when long ago the days of Platinum were only the beginning even for a new artist trying to break away from the pack.
Platinum (For those who don't know) ='s one million records, which equals 10 million one dollar bills(assuming cd sells at 9.99) for your record company to disburse among themselves, your marketing manufacturing, and blah blah blah also any other trinkets you've desired through you hiking up the hill to platinum status(eventually getting to the artist's pockets)....Now Platinum they may have been but the flash of a next album which with artists now would mean more jewels, more bad chicks for the video, more cars,...more more more yet less musical inspiration, but did Tony Toni Tone disappoint their fans with the continued success?....
NOPE..a pit stop in 91' from the Boyz in the hood soundtrack (A very hardcore soundtrack at that , which reached number 1 on the R&B charts) "Me and You"...made us believe we were on to something with the lyrics... Now that the both of us really know each other/Its time that we explore one another/ YEAAAAHHH!!!! BABY!/ (Sorry that was my favorite part)
("Just Me And You")
93's "Sons Of Soul" was truly the new nickname for these boyz from the hood tracking up hill once more. Now having more than enough "Rank" to say "The R&B name lives on through Tony Toni Tone". "Sons Of Soul" Took on double platinum status and had hit singles "If I Had No Loot" which hit #7 on the Hot 100, "Anniversary" which reached #10 on the Hot 100, and "(Lay Your Head On My) Pillow" which reached #4 on the R&B charts.
A Boy Band you couldn't call these funk survivors, sell out's... no, but what you can call them are the glue that kept 80's R&B/ New Jack Swing funky colorful and youthful..
Additional Info:
The term "New Jack Swing" or swingbeat is a fusion genre popular from the late-1980s into the mid-1990s. It fuses the rhythms, samples and production techniques of hip-hop and dance-pop with the urban contemporary sound of R&B. The new jack swing style developed as many previous R&B styles did, by combining elements of older styles with newer trends. It uses R&B style vocals sung over hip hop and dance-pop style influenced instrumentation.
It was coined by writer-filmmaker Barry Michael Cooper (screenwriter for the films New Jack City, Above the Rim, and Sugar Hill) in a cover story in the Village Voice titled, "Teddy Riley Groove Master: Harlem Gangsters Raise a Genius"
