R&B At Its Finest: Mary J. Blige "Never Been"

What better way to start this segment off than with Mary J. Blige's "Never Been"? From her 6,500,000 copies sold worldwide album "No More Drama" track number 13 "Never Been" gives us the true essence of R&B. With producer Missy Elliott Sampling Mcfadden & Whitehead's "Why Oh Why"'s "crying" string section (In my termanology a string section in any form makes the beat have more meaning hence the word "Cry" Aka "making the beat cry" Check the song you'll understand) and a knocking drum pattern which makes you have no choice but to rock with her meaningful yet plain and simple lyrics of "I never been touched like this/I never been/I never been kissed like this/I never been.

In R&B music I love to say "the simpler the better, the meaningful the more" This song gives off just that...A true flight Check it out...and turn it up!!!!

  5. Well in music in general you have your up tempo songs you have your medium songs and you have (What is often forgotten now) your slow songs/ power ballads.... In music you incorporate your insturments and what I learned in school every instrument can potentially emulate a feeling I.E drums can give you power which could equal a sense of mad or misunderstanding feelings etc...But any form of strings in my opinion equal sadness confusion and crying. at the same time depending on the tempo of the strings give you a feeling of power aswell to me...

  6. so with long bow strokes of a violin viola or cello to me I hear crying and give any beat more feeling to the listner's ear.. for instance would any of you feel the same about this song if there were no sample of the string section? I wouldn't, it makes you believe what she's saying more to me :)
