SAU On The Lawn Spotlight...El Guincho

El Guincho is the recording alias of Spanish musician Pablo Díaz-Reixa. Also a member of Coconot, Díaz-Reixa rose to prominence with his 2008 album, Alegranza!. His musical style, influenced by a broad range of artists like Animal Collective and Os Mutantes, relies heavily on the use of sampling and incorporates elements of Afrobeat, dub, Tropicália and rock and roll as Díaz-Reixa achieves what he's described as a kind of "space-age exotica". He utilizes a Roland SP-404.

Now although this is obviously in a different language the point of posting this is for you to expand your mind and realize that although in a different language (Spanish) you can't help but to ride with this one...doesn't this song make you want a nice mango?

History Class....Mary J. Blige's "My Life"...

The love for Mary J Blige May start at 2005's "Be Without You" for most of you, but over a hot cup of tea and iTunes, I came to realize more Mary Than I realized was on my play list. In the game for almost 22 years now Mary has continued to revamp R&B/Hip Hop music 20x's over which certifies that the name given "The Queen Of Hip Hop Soul" Is well deserved.

"What's the 411" from the "what's the 411 album"

Signing to Uptown records in 1989 Mary Began her career singing background for many of Uptown's artists just to get her feet wet. But when given the chance Mrs. Blige blew it out the water with her 1992 hit "Whats The 411" and "You Remind Me", the album's first single, peaked at number one on the R&B singles chart that summer. The second single, "Real Love", was released in the fall. It too topped the R&B singles chart, and became Blige's first top ten Hot 100 single, peaking at number seven. Both singles were certified gold for their sales volume.

But with backing by Sean P.Diddy Combs....On a cold Day in November the album that would ultimately be one of her deepest most heartfelt albums "My Life" was served up on a platter to show who Mrs. Blige was deep inside.

"Be Happy" "My Life"

With beats that a rapper could easily flow on, the surprise was that Mary had very soulful vocals that made the beat just as prominent"Be Happy", the album's single, peaked at number 29 and number six on the Hot 100 and R&B singles chart, respectively. Other My Life singles include "You Bring Me Joy" and "I Love You". "Mary Jane (All Night Long)" and "My Life" received heavy radio play, despite never being officially released as singles apart from the UK, where "Mary Jane (All Night Long)" became Blige's second top 20 hit from the album there. My Life was eventually certified triple platinum. That summer she dueted with rapper Method Man on his song, "I'll Be There for You/You're All I Need to Get By" (which sampled Marvin Gaye's "You're All I Need to Get By", and for which she won a Grammy award.) Later in the year, she recorded the Babyface-penned and produced "Not Gon' Cry", for the soundtrack to motion picture Waiting to Exhale. The platinum-selling single rose to number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and number one on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs in early 1996, and became her biggest commercial hit at the time.

Method Man Ft Mary J. Blige

Mary is most definitely the Blueprint for most R&B/Hip Hop female artists that arrive now. But what this album shows is that real life experiences make artists have a foundation to grow on and not something that is just handed to them. From the outing of that album Blige has sold over 50 million albums and 15 million singles. So the question remains: Is It better to actually ask an artist what they feel as opposed to just being told to sing? Feeling is the basis of all music people.... you gotta Feel Mary...

Kanye West Upset About Leak...

Yesterday An unauthorized song by Kanye West with a sample by Bon Iver Leaked to the web titled "Lost In The World" that has caused Kanye to get just a bit upset. So as a punishment to the entire internet, The rapper has decided to take away our privelage to hear his G.O.O.D Music this Friday.

West took to his Twitter to complain about the unfinished track "Lost in the World." "Due to blogs leaking unfinished songs from my album I've decided to pass [on] G.O.O.D. Fridays this week," he wrote. "It's messed up that one hacker can mess everything up for everyone…I love to take a year to finish my songs and deliver them…to you guys in [their] most completed form."

Still, West did confirm that he is working with Soulja Boy and Kid Cudi on new tracks and that he's pulling late nights finishing the record and prepping for his performance this weekend on Saturday Night Live. "In the lab with Soulja Boy and Cudi... 2 of my favorite most genius artist," he posted. "Even in my disappointment about the leaks I feel blessed."

New Vid: Shakira ft Dizzee Rascal "Loca"

Shakira Is Bringing the par-tay to us in her new video from her album "Sale el sol" "Loca". In this video its basically showing the "real" Shakira on a sunny day dancing, rollerskating, jumping on with bikers and just being her...I love the loca side of Shakira!

Can I Get A Sample??...

"Between the Sheets" is a quiet storm funk song released by American R&B/soul/funk band The Isley Brothers in 1983 off their album of the same name. The song made a huge impression on the Isleys' long legion of R&B fans who took the song to number three on the Billboard Top R&B Singles chart while it peaked at number one on Billboard's Bubbling Under chart. The song's R&B success helped their Between the Sheets album go platinum, the brothers' first platinum album since 1978's Showdown.

Fast forward to the times of today the song that once made us all want to get "Between the Sheets" now makes us want to turn the volume up and knock the "American Gangster" Album by Jay-Z in which the song "Ignorant Shit" samples the Isley Brothers in the best way possible...Check it out...
Sample starts at 3:29

New Music: Kanye West Ft Bon Iver "Lost In The World"...

A new song has leaked from artist Kanye West titled "Lost In The World" featuring Bon Iver. Starting with acapella verses, and hitting with Kanye's unmistakable lyrics, this song has more of a "Worldly" vibe to it with the tribal drums and loud chorus, but isn't my cup of tea..

Chris Brown's "Deuces" Remix Coming....

Chris Brown has strapped on his boots and seems to be ready for war this time around. The singer announced Via Ustream, that his number one hit "Deuces" now from his album to be released 2011 "F.A.M.E", has a part 2 (remix). This remix will reportedly feature mostly musical heavyweights in the form of T.I., Drake, Kanye West, Fabolous and our favorite Andre 3000. (Below)

Now I can't wait to hear each and every verse from this remix being that we know Kanye,Drake and Andre and maybe T.I will hit this out of the park, But Fabolous as of late has been WAY off the meter with the whole "I don't see nobody" thingie, but the truth is we haven't seen Fabolous since the release of "Real talk" with "Baby' and "Breathe"....

Black Eyed Peas Are Back At "The Beginning"

The Black Eyed Peas are coming once again sooner than we think. The ones that told us "I got A Feeling" and that their last album was "The E.N.D", Are releasing their new album "The Beginning" November 30th. Will.I. Am explains:

“It symbolizes growth, new beginnings and starts, fresh new perspective,” he stated.

The album will have 12 new songs produced by David Guetta and others by Will.I.Am...

Left Behind: R.E.M's "Losing My Religion"/ "Everybody Hurts"

"Losing My Religion" is a song by the American alternative rock band R.E.M. The song was released as the first single from the group's 1991 album Out of Time. Based around a mandolin riff, "Losing My Religion" was an unlikely hit for the group, garnering heavy airplay on radio as well as on MTV due to its critically-acclaimed music video. The song became R.E.M.'s highest-charting hit in the United States, reaching number four on the Billboard Hot 100 and expanding the group's popularity beyond its original fanbase. It was nominated for several Grammy Awards, and won two for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal and Best Short Form Music Video.

"Everybody Hurts" is a song by R.E.M., originally released on the band's 1992 album Automatic for the People and was also released as a single in 1993. It peaked at #29 on the Billboard Hot 100, #7 on the UK Singles Charts and #3 on the French Singles Chart.

Only reaching #4 and # 29 on the charts are why these two song were totally left behind. R.E.M basically gave you their soul on both records with lyrics that remain in our head for years after the release of both so it gives you no choice but to love them...

Lil Wayne's "I Am Not A Human Being" Sets Digital Record...

Lil Wayne's "I Am Not A Human Being" (released digitally only, physical release coming out two weeks later on Oct. 12) according to Billboard, the album is projecting first week digital sales of 90,000 units for "I Am Not a Human Being"; second week digital sales of 25,000 units, and then the third week of digital and first week of physical is expected to do sales of 225,000 units, with 20,000 of that coming from digital.

What's the problem you ask? Well some worry that putting a digital release out early could turn into a trend. "Its disturbing," says one merchant. "Its definitely putting brick-and-mortar second, and we are going to lose business that we would normally get. How is the consumer going to know that the album will have a second physical release?"

Another merchant complains that with a little ingenuity, Lil Wayne could have had his birthday cake and eaten it too, and still left some for brick-and-mortar merchants. That merchant wonders why Lil Wayne just didn't offer a discount or a premium for fans who pre-ordered the album on his birthday, instead of choosing to alienate an entire retail channel.

I.E being that an album is being released early digitally, the actual stores that sell these albums physically, could be in danger of not having something to call a job, being that Wayne's album (which is currently number one on itunes) could sell a shit load of albums....

Musical Term: Vocal Range..

Vocal range is the measure of the breadth of pitches that a human voice can phonate. Although the study of vocal range has little practical application in terms of speech, it is a topic of study within linguistics, phonetics, and speech and language pathology, particularly in relation to the study of tonal languages and certain types of vocal disorders. However, the most common application of the term "vocal range" is within the context of singing, where it is used as one of the major defining characteristics for classifying singing voices into groups known as voice types.

The following are the general vocal ranges associated with each voice type using scientific pitch notation where middle C=C4. Some singers within these voice types may be able to sing somewhat higher or lower...

Soprano: C4 – C6
Mezzo-soprano: A3 – A5
Contralto: F3 – F5
Tenor: C3 – C5
Baritone: F2 – F4
Bass: E2 – E4

But to give you a better visual of vocal terms Below we give you the vocal range of Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Beyonce, and Leona Lewis all live.. very interesting...

SAU On The Lawn Spotlight...My Pet Dragon

My Pet Dragon is a Rock band founded by Todd Michaelsen. The 5-piece band consists of dancer Reena Shah, bassist Mario Padron, guitarist Vincent Mascolo, and drummer Rajeev Maddela. "MPD", as their fans call them, are signed to Gimme That Sound Productions.

A young Todd Michaelsen came to NYC via the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York. He had just quit college and knew that he needed to be in a place where things were happening. His goal was to expand his horizons, so he crashed on his uncle’s couch on the lower east side, soaked up music and read every book he could get his hands on while taking in the excitement of the big city. Todd soon found himself hanging out with musicians, artists and DJs in Brooklyn’s burgeoning art rock scene. It was there that he met Reena Shah, a beautiful Indian dancer and actress.

The two became inseparable and quickly moved in together, their blossoming romance punctuated by the harsh reality of living in a cold water flat in a rough neighborhood of Bushwick, Brooklyn. A shared love of music and art got them through this stressful period. They may have been dead broke but they were falling in love and exploring new ideas. Their luck changed when they went to Mumbai to visit Reena’s relatives. It was Todd’s first trip to India and he was amazed by the experience. The couple explored Jain temples and saw live music, dance and the martial arts of Kerala. Indian culture was thriving despite intense poverty, just as they had thrived as a couple despite the hardships of their lives back home in Bushwick. After two months in India, Todd proposed to Reena on a beach overlooking the Arabian Sea.

Upon returning to New York, the couple formed My Pet Dragon as a music and dance duo. Their encounters in India heavily influenced Todd’s songwriting—rock fans and DJs, alike, embraced their debut album, First Born. A remixed version of the song “Dragon Breath” was played on BBC radio and the album and subsequent tour received rave reviews.

I've been listening to this song "Lover In Hiding" since April of this year and the band gives off a fresh sound that is much needed in music today absolutely love it

Radiohead Headed Back To The Studio....

It looks like Radiohead are on their way to the studio next week to see how they can follow up to their last album "In Rainbows". Drummer Philip Selway told The Canadian Press the band will regroup next Monday to determine how close the followup to In Rainbows is to being ready.

We've been working on material on and off for a year now and we've had the summer off so yes, we're basically taking stock on Monday and seeing what we need to do with the material to move it to those final stages,” Selway said in a telephone interview from Amsterdam on Monday.

“We're just returning to it with fresh ears and taking stock of where we are and how close we are to finishing stuff, really, and we won't know till Monday
.”

With the release of "In Rainbows" Which set the rock world a blaze I hope Radiohead does come up with something out the box with this one. That shouldn't be too hard being that their song "15 Steps" was made in the unusual 5/4 time signature that we haven't heard in a very long time....Can't wait to hear whats next for the band...

Left Behind: Groove Theory's "Tell Me"

Groove Theory which was a R&B and hip hop music duo formed in New York City in 1993 when singer Amel Larrieux met rapper Bryce Wilson through a mutual friend, and while Amel was working at Rondor Music NY, as a receptionist. The two found themselves perfect for each other as both were upset with the direction their career was taking. Wilson hoped to use the group as a chance to utilize his production talents while Larrieux wanted a chance to shine in R&B.

But before the breakup they spawned the song (And one of my first cassettes) "Tell me" "Tell Me" reached number five on the Billboard Hot 100 and number three on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and is still to this day one of my favorite joints that I rock to in the house or car....

Beyonce' To Collab With Q-Tip?

Much noise is boiling under about the new album Beyonce' is readying, but this one might make you scratch your head just a little. The superstar singer is working with Rapper Q-Tip (Tribe called Quest) on her next album. Of course no one's quite sure the song or songs will be heard, but a collab with those two is certainly unreal being that Q-Tip had a major part in the working of Mariah Carey's #1 single (97')"Honey". The song was Carey's twelfth number 1 single on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and became her third single to debut at number 1, consolidating her position as the artist with the most number-one debuts (the others being "Fantasy" and "One Sweet Day", both 1995).

Q-Tip tweeted: working on mary, beyonce joints.. me kanye zoning in on jay next week… hey producers.. I’M BAAACK!

I love the entire vibe Q-tip gives off as a rapper so lets hope this song somehow peaks its way out to us when the album comes...

But the numbers are in and Linkin Park came out victorious with sales from their "Thousand Suns" album totalling 254k.. But not too far behind is Trey Songz at #2 with "Passion, Pain, And, Pleasure" selling 244k in the first week. Although Linkin Park did come in at number one, Mr. Songz did in fact give the Park a run for their money..

The amazement of it all is Shady/Aftermath/Interscope’s dominant Eminem album Recovery is STILL on board at number #3, up 10% and now closing in on 2.6 million in sales as well as the #1 spot over Lady Antebellum for 2010’s best-selling release.....

Kanye West "Runaway" Single Cover....

Kanye West has revealed his single cover for his album that should be released soon..."Runaway" love ft Push T from the Clipse..

From The Album "Hands All Over" "Out Of Goodbyes" Ft Lady Antebellum

Taking it to the level of Country music, from the album "Hands All Over" that dropped today Track #12 "Out of Goodbyes" Shows a softer side of Maroon 5 than the funk they possess on most of their songs. This song is getting much attention from the web today so take a listen...

New Music: Akon "Angel"

Another song that reminds me of B.E.P's I got a feelin'...Who knows how this will impact the charts though SAU Whatcha think? This song is from Akon's upcoming album "Stadium" and is the fourth studio album by singer, Akon. Via Wikipedia, The Album will be released in late 2010.

New Music: 50 Cent "They Burned Me"

You know I can actually say that the song is pretty much a head nodder from 50. The beat which is pretty much grimey, is a knocker to me...

Kanye West To Perform On SNL....

Kanye West is scheduled to perform on the SNL Stage October 2nd, which will be hosted by "Breaking Bad" star Bryan Cranston. Although on the "Power" track Mr. West blatantly dissed the SNL crew, The Rapper still looks to do his thing on the infamous stage. I'd personally love to see Kanye do a sketch with the crew to turn everything upside down in a roar of laughter. So until then this should be a good watch..

In other Yeezy news M.I.A has revealed that she’s been working on Kanye West’s new album "Dark Twisted Fantasy".

M.I.A Tweeted: “In the studio with kanye, jus speakin in mark twain quotes.”

Yeezy responded by tweeting a line from author Mark Twain..

Mrs. Twain...."Your Still The One"

When you think of the last name Twain,2 people come to mind... Mark Twain the very popular aurthor who wrote "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1884) but since I nor you guys were around then, now is the time to get to the infamous Shania Twain. A country music Executive's dream, Shania Twain rode in on her canadian horse with her self titled 1993 album which ultimately sold a million copies out the gate, "The Woman in me" released in 1995 which did pretty well for a then newby of country music (Pretty well as in 12 million copies sold LOL)

"You're Still the one"

but With Shania and company around her knowing that she could be the one to change country music for the "Umpteenth" time, When shiny Suits and many of the Bad boy crew telling you "Can't nobody hold me down" Mrs. Twain thought the exact same thing. 1997-98' Shania quietly whispered in the ranks of 39 million people's ear "Come on Over"..and that we did, the album would eventually make Shania one of the most successful crossover artists of all time (Crossing over from deep country to worldwide success) the first single "You're still the one"(Which makes my heart drop each and everytime I hear it) peaking at number 2, but never quite getting those extra points to get to number one. At the 1999 Grammy's the Country world would sing her praises with her capturing "Best Country Song" and "Best Female Country Vocal Performance" and lost Record of the Year and Song of the Year to Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On". (Which is another conversation)

Going forward with Shania being one of the most successful country artists of all time and her album "Come Over" being the the 9th bestselling album in the U.S, I quote her " We might have took the long way/ we knew we'd get there some day". The want for Shania's music still exsists in myself and I bet a nice amount of her fans all over. Shania isn't done showing her face on the tube though, In April 2010, Twain announced plans for her own TV show, entitled Why Not? With Shania Twain. The show is scheduled to debut in early 2011 on OWN.

But the question still remains, With new comers Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift gearing towards the goal that Shania hit will she return to her roots with country music and capture our hearts once again?...just know Mrs. Twain, on that faithful day SAU will be knocking... ;)

Additional info: "Shania Twain" the album went 2x's platinum in Canada and Platinum in the U.S

"The Woman In Me" went 2x's diamond in Canada, 12x's platinum in the U.S, platinum in the U.K and 2x's in Australia

"UP" did 18 million world wide
