Male R&B...On The Rise Or A Thing Of The Past...
Male R&B..A Major thing in the 90's with the Rise of R.Kelly, the soothing sounds of the (then) newby Maxwell. D'Angelo gave you some "Brown Sugar" Tevin Cambell told you he was "Ready" and you couldn't get away from the soulful, honest, yet so humble sounds of Brian Mcknight.. Fast forward to the end of the 90's Ginuwine broke the mode with unique beats by Timbaland, Donell Jones had his smash album "Where I wanna Be" and the Coca Cola guy named Tyrese made us all "Sweet Ladies".
R&B males were on the rise but not ready for what was to come... 2004 on a breezy March night Usher Broke the door down to "Confess" to all 10 million plus what he was going through and from up the street the golden star that was Chris Brown hollered "Yo" and wouldn't let up until we found out that then he was the one to "Run it"...
Unlike the days of the 60's and 70's when we had your Frankie Beverly's, Al Green's,Sam Cooke's, Smokey Robinson, Philip Bailey, and the one and only Marvin Gaye. Male R&B seems like just a dream here in the year of 2010... With select pickings and Some that can't even hold a full note in concert,The legends that were of the 60's and 70's can't help but to roll in their graves(or wheelchairs) If they were to hear what it is, that is Male R&B now so the question is....Do you guys think that Male R&B will ever reign supreme again or do you think its a dying genre?

Damn this is a very good write up
ReplyDeleteI dont think R&B will ever reign supreme when Trey Songz is the hottest thing out
ReplyDeleteMale R&B is gone now its so sad I use to love all the male R&B in the 90's but its embarassing now
ReplyDeleteIf Trey Songz is the hottest thing out then Male R&B is spiraling down pretty soon all we will have is females in the industry
ReplyDeleteAmazing write up Ms.A!
ReplyDeleteR&B sucks now Usher sucks,Try Songz sucks,Chris Brown killed himself off.All thats left is Ne-Yo
ReplyDeleteR&B is dead
ReplyDeleteI dont think this genre will revive itself its so lost
ReplyDeleteGreat article Ms.A
ReplyDeleteNe-Yo is the best we got but he cant do it alone
ReplyDeleteWith all of those names you said Ms.A they were great alone but there was so many of them and that made them such a force
ReplyDeleteI agree there were WAY more names but I wrote this off the top of my head so forgive me if I didn't mention other names. But now a days everyone wants to compete against eachother to the core and don't want to come together as a force to get on top...So until then I say its basically dead..So sad
ReplyDeleteIts very dead the top man is Trey Songz but is he a rapper or a singer?
ReplyDeleteI hate what R&B has become it all sounds like Hip-Hop
ReplyDeleteI love Ne-Yo but he cant do it along
ReplyDeleteIf Neyo dropps the ball its all lost I think
ReplyDeleteI hope Ne-Yo does not drop the ball because if he does all is lost
ReplyDeleteI think that R&B has no hope when all we can do is say AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH
ReplyDeleteGreat write up Ms.A
ReplyDeleteI think Usher is gonna carry the torch he has a #1 record and his album went #1 yall are not giving his new record a chance
ReplyDeleteWhy is everybody hating on Trey?
ReplyDeleteHe is the only one out here doing his thing
ReplyDeleteTrey songz sucks and Usher sucks now!
ReplyDeleteWho said Usher CD was good yall are lying to yourself except that you loss your $12 dollars for nothing
ReplyDeleteR&B SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteUsher and Trey Songz cant hold a candle to Al Green and Marvin
ReplyDeleteAtleast Maxwell is still killing the game
ReplyDeleteUsher is the biggest flop of all time to me he has sold millions but was he not the next Michael Jackson?
ReplyDeleteHow can you say Usher is the biggest flop ever??
ReplyDeleteHe has sold over 60 million records he is one of the best of all time
ReplyDeleteNah I don't think Usher is the biggest flop of all time..that was a little extreme
ReplyDeleteNo one can be Michael he is the greatest ever but dont say Usher is a flop you dont know music if you think that
ReplyDeleteUsher just needs to get back with JD and put egos aside and he will be fine.
ReplyDeleteI bet Mariah next album will be the truth
ReplyDeleteUsher and Chris Brown dropped the ball completely!
ReplyDeleteR.Kelly just dropped of this earth for a minute I use to love his music
ReplyDeleteEven though Usher dropped the ball he is not a flop.Who could live up to Michael Jackson thats not fair
ReplyDeleteUsher needs to do something maybe a him and JD reunite would do him good
ReplyDeleteChris Brown is just a lost talent and where the hell is Ne-Yo? please come save us
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion Ne-Yo and and Usher put out the best albums of this decade.Ne-Yo's last one and Ushers Confessions
ReplyDeleteNe-YO WHERE ARE YOU!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteUsher is great (except his last CD) but he could never be Michael.I dont think R&B has any hope but I think Ne-Yo will be huge because he is the only hope we got so when he comes out it will be an event
ReplyDeleteToday's R&B sucks and I think its to far gone
ReplyDeleteI blame the labels its all there fault why cant they say were not gonna put out this shit and make good music
ReplyDeleteMs.A do you think labels will ever grow some balls and make this right?
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing I can for see bringing R&B back
ReplyDeleteMarvin is turning in his grave right now
ReplyDeleteAll of the acts out now suck accept Ne-Yo and he is taking so long
ReplyDeleteThe labels have ruined music I think they wanted the fast easy money and its bitting them in the ass now
ReplyDeleteI agree the labels are at fault there the ones putting the bad music out
ReplyDeleteRnB will never be the same they do not have as many great voices anymore
