Question Of The Day.....

Since you wonderful Students at SAU are so big in music(and so is your professor) I have a WONDERFUL question for you.....Whose fault is it that the recording industry is on the brink of shambles?....the Producers, the Artist, or the Executives?

I for one have to give mostly to the producers, You have to think that's where most of the direction from a CD comes from, that's where the sound comes from, and the vocal ability. As Producers you have to push the artist, I think now most of the producers have gotten lazy about their craft, and the quality of their product being that their name is at a certain level...It's debate time whatcha think SAU?

  3. Music is really bad right now there is just a handful of artist that make palitable music right now.I think it falls on the artist they should have the say in the creativity of there own music.

  4. I think its everyone's fault the artist, the producer, the executives and us the consumers. If we want a change than we have to show the industry that were not buying the Soulja Boy's and other terrible records that they put out.But as a person who listens to all types of music the rock and alternative side does not have this problem. They have put out atleast 4 classic CD's this year U2,Green Day,The Fray, and Daughtry.

  5. Here is even a better question why is so called "black music" the genre that is suffering right now.

  6. We are the genre that's suffering because we as black people don't support our own! we are too busy saying whats wrong with them and worrying what the blogs say is wrong with their music than to have our own opinion! I mean the rock and pop side is off the chain but we are tooo judgemental also OUR MUSIC SUCKS!!!

  7. As a songwriter/producer of Hip-Hop & RNB music aswell as Rock and Alternative I have to say Ms.Claudia you are the closet to being right. It is unfair to put it squarely on the shoulders of the producers for the decline in music.I will explain from both sides of the fence. They are some producers who specialize in making "Soulja Boy" type tracks but real producers do not acknowledge them they sit at home and make loops on a program called fruity loops. After about a couple of days of learning the program anyone can do that Im not trying to knock there hustle but it is what it is.But you cant even blame them for the decline because that is what the consumer is buying right now.Now some of your favorite 20th century producers have fallen off but they still make quality music for the most part. The problem comes in and Im not trying to put them on blast but the A&R's give us producers hell. The A&R will call us up or come to a studio session and say this does not sound right are this needs to sound more "commercial" etc etc. That will mess up a producers creative flow in turns that why music sounds so repetitive over and over and the consumer is left with the music of today which you guys buy.For example I have 4 tracks sitting on my computer that I wanted to shop for the new Mariah project but there going for the "new" sound I guess you call it with the auto-tune and none of my records have that.So in turn I will not be able to get on her project. When Producers are faced with that decision they will more than likely dumb there music down so they can get work.

  8. At the end of the day this is just a big food chain cycle. The customer buys these messed up records. The label heads are forced to to put out that type of music because thats what the customer is buying. So the label bosses tell the A&R they want that sound.Than the A&R comes and tells the producers and songwriters thats what they want.Than the producers have to make a decision do I change my style to fit the way the A&R and the labels want it or do I not do the record and subsequently not make any money for me and my family to eat?...... What would you do?

  10. I did not really touch on the artist because there pretty much puppets on a string. They are told what music to do you would be surprised how little power and control your favorite artist have.Im going to end my little rant by saying at the end of the day if you want music to get better the fans have to stop buying the terrible music and make the labels understand you want a change.Until than you better do the Stankey Leg.......

  11. Amen Thats the best explanation I have heard regarding this subject.

  12. Damn I didnt know it was like that so why are all of the good CD's on the Rock side and they were no good black artist to put out records this year?

    ReplyDelete
  13. The Rock side does not have the same problems as Hip-Hop.Hip-Hop is very heavily bootlegged thats why these artist are barely going Gold mix in the fact its a recession a very lethal mix.People who buy Rock are more likely to buy the CD and is not bootlegged nearly as much.So when the label wants to put out a Rock/Alternative CD they want the artist to be creative and free spirited thats the essence of that type of music.
